Fits: A link that never changes, no scan counts
Use a static code from The QR Code Generator
A static code stores your address in the pattern itself. It never expires, needs no account, and no company can switch it off. The QR Code Generator makes unlimited static codes free, with logo and colour options, and if you later need to edit a code or count scans, the same account upgrades to editable codes from $5 a month. In our decode test, its static code encoded the test address directly, with no vendor link in between.
Fits: Editable codes on the smallest budget
The QR Code Generator's Flex plan, $5 a month
The QR Code Generator Flex is $5 a month billed yearly for 5 editable, ad-free codes, with bulk creation, CSV export of scan data and 60 days of history included; $10 a month gives 45 codes. QR Planet Starter also costs $5 a month for 5 codes with bulk and CSV export, but prices exclude VAT and the minimum term is 3 months. QR TIGER Regular is $7 a month for 12 codes but puts bulk on its $16 plan, and Scanova Basic is $5 a month for 3 codes with bulk on its $35 plan.
Fits: Scan analytics and exports for a small team
The QR Code Generator's Flex plan, then its Uniqode-powered Core plan
The QR Code Generator Flex ($5 a month billed yearly) records city, country, device and operating system for every scan, keeps 60 days of history, and exports it all as CSV; exact GPS location is a $5-a-month add-on. When you need Google Analytics, Zapier or an API, its Core plan ($49 a month billed yearly) runs on Uniqode and adds all three with 90 days of history. Hovercode Pro ($12) tracks city and country but exports CSV only on its $39 plan.
Fits: Hundreds or thousands of codes at once
The QR Code Generator for hundreds, Uniqode for thousands
The QR Code Generator includes bulk creation on its $5 Flex plan (45 codes at $10). For larger runs, Uniqode allows 250 codes per batch on Core, 1,000 on Plus and 5,000 on Business+, with an API from Core (250,000 requests a month). QR Planet includes batch creation from its $5 Starter plan and QRFY on every plan from $228 a year; Hovercode and QR TIGER put it on higher plans.
Fits: Google Analytics, Zapier, a CRM or an API
Uniqode Core
Uniqode Core ($49 a month billed yearly) includes Google Analytics, Zapier, Make, Slack and the QR Code API with 250,000 requests a month, on 250 codes. Flowcode puts CRM integrations and its API on Growth at $250 a month billed yearly (the price appears when its pricing page is switched to the monthly view; the yearly view says "Annual only"). QR TIGER adds Zapier and HubSpot on Advanced ($16 a month billed yearly) with 3,000 API requests a month.
Fits: A company with an IT or security review
Uniqode
Uniqode is our pick when security has to sign off: two-factor login on every plan, single sign-on (SAML) as a $500-a-year add-on on Plus and included on Business+, role-based access, and a trust center that claims SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001:2022, HIPAA and GDPR together. Business+ ($399 a month billed yearly) gives 2,000 codes, lifetime analytics and 2 organizations. Full comparison on the enterprise page.
Fits: Healthcare or another regulated organisation
Uniqode
Uniqode is the only platform we checked whose trust center lists HIPAA next to SOC 2 Type I and II, ISO 27001:2022 and GDPR, with a HIPAA audit report and a business associate agreement among its documents; Uniqode's own pages disagree on which plan includes a signed BAA: its healthcare guide says Business+ and above, its Flowcode comparison says Enterprise, and its pricing page does not say. Its site names The Cigna Group and PatientPoint among its customers. Two-factor login is on every plan, and single sign-on (SAML) is a $500-a-year add-on on Plus, included on Business+. The QR Code Generator's Core and Plus plans run on the same infrastructure. See HIPAA for healthcare.
Fits: Security matters, but you are not an enterprise
The QR Code Generator's Uniqode-powered plans
The QR Code Generator Core and Plus run on Uniqode's platform, which states two-factor authentication and SSO, and the plans carry Uniqode's SOC 2, ISO, HIPAA and GDPR badges. The redirect domain it uses, qr-codes.io, answered over HTTPS and sent an HSTS header in our redirect test. Details on the security ranking.
Fits: Not sure what static and dynamic mean yet
Start here: static or dynamic?
A static code stores your link in the pattern. It is free, never expires, and nobody can switch it off, but you cannot change it after printing or count scans. A dynamic code stores a short link on the vendor's domain that forwards to your page, so you can change the destination and see scan counts. If the content will never change, go static. If you might edit it or want numbers, go dynamic and read the dynamic ranking.
